Why are you called momentum?
To be honest, we thought it was just a clever way to describe what the group of students who gather together at Calvary Chapel South Orlando represent. Momentum is a word that communicates the idea of something that started moving continuing to….well…move. And that’s kinda how we see ourselves. Each of our lives really was started when we all came to faith in Jesus and resulted in a real relationship with God and also with other believers who call themselves “the church”. Momentum is just a word to describe us – students united in the name of Jesus to demonstrate real love to each other and to those who have yet to accept or reject the wonderful grace that is found in a submitted life to Christ.
What are momentum bible studies like?
When you come out to our weekly gatherings, it less like a service and more of a community. We get together to share life and build relationships with each other, but most of all we look to God’s Word as the central guide for our lives. So that means any subject the bible covers is game. Sure, we do fun stuff together, but mostly our goal each Wednesday night simply to encounter God and learn from His Word. This is why our study of God’s word is verse-by-verse.
What do you mean when you say “verse-by-verse”?
Ok…there’s no way to say this without some one thinking that we think we’re the only one’s teaching the bible. This is not true. There are tons of ways to teach the bible. You can go to youth groups where they teach about topics about your life and use the bible to give you answers to them. We believe that the more bible people understand – the better they’ll be. So we teach the bible verse-by verse covering a lot of topics that you want to hear about and some you wouldn’t admit to wanting to cover. Because we believe that ALL scripture is useful to teach us what is true, we’re committed to teaching the whole bible.
Does momentum do anything else besides bible studies?
Totally! We’ve always got random stuff going on like camps, retreats, trips, events, concerts, and basket weaving (ok…so maybe not that last one). Check out our website for our yearly blow out events (like beach camp and trips and stuff) to get information way in advance. For other activities, check back here at our website for events that may just come out of nowhere, like that dollar bill you find in an old pair of jeans that you didn’t know you left! Whether you find yourself coming out to one of our major events or to one of our random events, momentum experiences are a great way to hang out with friends or make some new ones.
